Direct Support Professionals (DSP) Week 2024

Charitable Trust staff were excited to participate in the celebration of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) recognition week. Everyday across the nation, Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) play a vital role in America’s workforce and economy by providing necessary supports and services to people with disabilities of all ages, including supports related to employment. Locally, there are several organizations who receive funding from the Trust who support people with disabilities. This year, the DSPs who work at Spring Dell were celebrated the week of September 8-14, 2024.

Spring Dell’s ‘Superhero’ themed week kicked off on Monday with a staff appreciation breakfast and proclamation presented to staff by LaPlata Mayor, Jeannine James, recognizing DSP’s vital contributions to our Charles County community. On Tuesday, Sept 9th the Charles County Board of Commissioners presented Spring Dell Direct Support Professionals with a Proclamation declaring September 8-14, 2024 as Direct Support Professionals Week. During the presentation at the county government building, many Spring Dell DSPs were recognized for their years of service in the field. On Thursday, Charitable Trust Executive Director volunteered in the planned “Spa Day.” Staff were treated to a break from their workday and given 30 minutes to relax and recharge in a private room redecorated to resemble a spa. Soft music played, snacks and desserts were served, and DSP staff were offered a chance to sit in a massage chair or receive hand massages from volunteers. Throughout the week staff were given DSP themed superhero shirts as a gift.

One DSP staff told Charitable Trust Executive Director, “I just love working here. I am with my friends all day and I love taking care of the people here. The desserts and spa day are a bonus to a job I love.” Spring Dell posted “Our DSPs are 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 just caregivers; they are friends, mentors, and advocates. They play a direct role in providing support to a person so that they can achieve their goals and dreams!”

Spring Dell is busy preparing for their 31st Annual Auction, their biggest fundraiser of the year featuring a live and silent auction. The event will be held on Friday, November 22nd, at 5pm at the Greater Waldorf Jaycees.  Tickets and Sponsorships are still available. For more information visit: SpringDellCenter.org

Spring Dell has two resale stores that support the organization's mission. The Hooks & Hangers retail stores accept donations of new and gently used items 6 days a week and 100% of their proceeds support people with disabilities in Charles County. How cool!
