Children’s Aid Society Warehouse Visit

Charitable Trust Staff stopped by Children’s Aid Society in Waldorf this month to learn about the work they are doing for those in need across Charles County. Director Danielle Wilmoth, who has been with the organization for 11 years, walked us through large rooms of meticulously organized bins and shelving containing food, clothing, backpacks, diapers, baby and hygiene items. At their Huntington Circle Waldorf location, individuals and families can enter the lobby, be greeted by friendly intake staff, and receive needed items. Families are allowed to return once every 30 days and are assessed each time for what they need.

Throughout the warehouse, Children’s Aid Society has nonperishable pantry items, refrigerated and frozen food, as well as racks of baby and hygiene necessities. The addition of a second room off the back of the warehouse holds floor to ceiling bins of clothing organized by gender and size. Several volunteers can be found organizing items and stocking shelves. Children’s Aid Society works with several partners throughout the county to provide needed goods and holds events throughout the year, including a School Supplies Drive, Thanksgiving Baskets, Christmas Toy Connection, and Easter Baskets.

Their Christmas Toy Connection will be held the week of December 16th. Applications for families in need are being accepted now. Apply online here: https://charlescountydss.com/childrens-aid-society-christmas-toy-connection-online-submission/

Families in need can call (301)645-1561 to schedule an appointment to receive food/supplies at the warehouse. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred.

Want to help? Children’s Aid Society accepts donations on weekdays 9:00am-1:00pm. Calling ahead is preferred. The highest priority need for donations currently is nonperishable food items and new toys.

Did you know?

Children’s Aid Society Staff have recently added a separate section of ready-to-eat food items specifically for unhoused individuals. These items do not require a kitchen or any preparation - an important distinction that must be made by staff when citizens come in needing food. What a great idea!
