Fiscal Year 2025 Grants will be due April 11, 2024

Charles County Charitable Trust announces FY23 Grant Awards and Additional ARPA Funds

The Charles County Charitable Trust announces the awards of 49 Fiscal Year 2023 grants to nonprofits serving the Charles County community, offering a variety of services. The award amounts total $1,109,300 which includes a one-time additional funding increase of $300,000. Funding is provided by the Charles County Board of Commissioners through their continued support of the nonprofit sector.

The awards will cover fiscal year 2023, which began on July 1 and ends on June 30, 2023.

Through an agreement with the Charles County Government, the Charles County Charitable Trust serves as the administrator for Charles County’s annual Grant awards. “We received 52 grant applications this year, with FY23 grant requests more than doubling the amount of available funds. It made the decision-making process extremely difficult. Our Board of Directors reviewed every application and decided on the awards as a team. This was a tough process because so many grant requests were meritorious.” said Russell Yates, The Charitable Trust’s Board President.

Grant awards ranged from $3,000 to $65,000 with the average recipient award totaling $22,000. The Health and Human Services field continues to be the largest impacted area of grant funds awarded with funds supporting individuals and families in need throughout the county. A number of grants were awarded to organizations serving the youth population, theater programs and the arts, while we also recognize the value of supporting adult learners, veterans and our local environment.

Qualifying grant recipients had to provide evidence of their official charitable status, financial stability, and clearly state their programs objectives. Each recipient is required to sign a formal grant agreement and provide the Trust with mid-year and annual reporting saying how grant dollars were used.

We see the strength and resilience of our nonprofit community as we continue to navigate our way forward. Battling staff shortages, quarantines, low volunteer commitment and searching for additional funding, our county nonprofits continue to shine, providing essential services, connections, and relationships to our community. Now, as much as ever, they need our continued support. The Charles County Charitable Trust is honored to have been entrusted with the management of these grant programs by the Charles County Commissioners. Its Board of Directors and staff appreciate the opportunity to contribute to the county’s well-being through service and advocacy of the many nonprofit organizations.
