The Charles County Charitable Trust announces the awards of 22 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Round 3 grants to nonprofits serving the Charles County community. The award amounts, totaling $285,000, are provided by Charles County through the American Rescue Plan Act passed by Congress in 2021.
Through an agreement with the Charles County Government, the Charles County Charitable Trust serves as the administrator of the county’s grant awards. The Trust received 31 grant applications this round with grant requests totaling $427,000. The Charitable Trust’s Board of Directors reviewed every application and made thoughtful reward decisions as a team. Grant awards ranged from $1,000 to $15,000. Eighteen recipients were fully funded and 4 recipients were partially funded.
The Health and Human Services field is the largest impacted area of awarded funds supporting food pantries, services for people with disabilities, medical care for low-income residents, diapers and toiletry distribution, and more. Various grants were also awarded to organizations supporting our county’s youth through summer camps and music programs. All grant funding is used solely within Charles County for the benefit of local residents and for purposes related to mitigating the lasting negative effects of the COVID19 pandemic on our community. Qualifying grant recipients were required to provide proof of their official charitable status, financial stability, and a clearly stated program objectives and budget. Each recipient signs a formal grant agreement and provides the Trust with an annual report outlining their use of grant dollars.
The Charitable Trust and its board members express continued gratitude for the great work of our nonprofit sector in Charles County. Staff shortages, lower donation and volunteer rates, and substantial revenue loss because of the Covid-19 pandemic continue to affect many organizations in 2024, but still they push forward. Our county nonprofits provide essential services, items, and connections to those in need. The Charles County Charitable Trust is honored to have been entrusted with the management of these grant funds. Charles County Charitable Trust FY25 Grant announcement coming February 2024
The Charles County Charitable Trust plans to announce the availability of FY25 grant funds for nonprofit organizations serving Charles County in late February 2024. The funds are to be provided by the Charles County Board of Commissioners through their continued support of the nonprofit sector. The application deadline will be in April 2024.
