Charles County Charitable Trust announces ARPA Round 2 Grant Awards

The Charles County Charitable Trust announces the awards of 38 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Round 2 grants to nonprofits serving the Charles County community in support of a variety of important services. The award amounts, totaling $500,000, are provided by Charles County through the American Rescue Plan Act passed by Congress in 2021.

Through an agreement with the Charles County Government, the Charles County Charitable Trust serves as the administrator of the county’s grant awards. The Trust received 43 grant applications this round with grant requests nearly doubling the amount of available funds. The Charitable Trust’s Board of Directors reviewed every application and made tough reward decisions as a team. Grant awards ranged from $1,000 to $25,000 with the average recipient award totaling $13,000.

The Health and Human Services field is the largest impacted area of awarded funds supporting food pantries, rental assistance, nursing care for people with disabilities, and behavioral health programs among others. Various grants were also awarded to organizations supporting our county’s youth through mentorship and educational programs, summer camps, as well as art and theater services for all ages. All grant funding is used solely within Charles County for the benefit of local residents. Qualifying grant recipients were required to provide proof of their official charitable status, financial stability, and clearly state their program objectives. Each recipient is required to sign a formal grant agreement and provide the Trust mid-year and annual reports outlining their use of grant dollars.

The Charitable Trust and its board members acknowledge the incredible strength and resilience of our nonprofit community as they navigate difficulties this year. Staff shortages, lower donation and volunteer rates, and substantial revenue loss as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic continue to affect many organizations. Despite these challenges, our county nonprofits push forward in providing essential services, connections, and relationships to our community. They require our ongoing support more than ever. The Charles County Charitable Trust is honored to have been entrusted with the management of these grant funds. Our Board of Directors and staff appreciate the opportunity to contribute to the county’s well-being through service and advocacy of our stellar nonprofit organizations.A list of ARPA Round 2 Grant Recipients can be found on the Charles County Charitable Trusts website:
