Transitional Housing Program

The Charitable Trust seeks to improve the lives of Charles County residents through the addition of new transitional housing beds.

  • The top priority with these capital expenditures is the addition of new transitional housing beds, providing interim stability for children and families in Charles County
  • Transitional Housing Program objectives, outcomes and timelines should be detailed and include the impact on the quality of life for Charles County residents
  • The program budget should be detailed and include supporting documentation where applicable. The budget narrative should support the funding
    request and additional sources of program funding should be clear and achievable
  • Applicants approved for further consideration of their program should be prepared to present their Program to the Charitable Trust Board of Directors

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must have IRS recognition as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization no later than January 1, 2021 and must operate in Charles County
  • Applicants must be in good standing with the State of Maryland
  • Proposed Transitional Housing Program must be located in Charles County and be carried out for the benefit of Charles County residents
  • If the proposed grant request involves collaboration with one or more other nonprofits, one organization must act as the lead applicant and submit a single application noting in detail the partnership in the narrative space
  • Nonprofits must have been operational continuously since January 1, 2021, operate with an annual budget, and have a board of at least three members who are not related to one another

Grant Review Process

Upon receipt of applications, staff review each application and supporting documentation to ensure its completeness and the applicant’s eligibility. Applications are then reviewed and scored by a panel composed of the Charitable Trust’s Board of Directors. Applicants selected to proceed to final review will be invited to present their project to the Charitable Trust Board of Directors. Final award decisions will be made after all finalist presentations. Awards will be announced by June 2024.

Criteria For Awarding Grants

Criteria for awarding grants include, but is not limited to:

  • Goals, objectives and outcomes are clearly defined and achievable, given the available financial and staff resources
  • Potential impact program (s) will have on the quality of the lives of underserved populations, such as those living in poverty or from low-income households and individuals with disabilities
  • Potential impact on the quality life for residents of Charles County at large, such as arts and culture, the environment and education
  • The extent to which partnerships are formed with other organizations to better target services, improve programs and reduce costs
  • The extent to which a diverse mix of funding is obtained to support and expand program
