This Fall, Charitable Trust staff visited the Hope Esperanza Restoration Empowerment Center (H.E.R.E Center) located in Waldorf. The H.E.R.E. Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering those from all walks of life who have experienced trauma. Through their mental health and wellness services, they aim to restore broken bonds and bridge gaps within our community.
The H.E.R.E. Center operates as an outpatient mental health clinic providing therapy and support to individuals and families. They also offer youth-focused programming, including yoga classes and other activities that promote emotional well-being. Their welcoming space features a lower-level play therapy room, Pat’s Closet, a free clothing shop for anyone in need, and a diaper pantry. To address additional community needs, they also maintain access to food pantry and a community freezer. These resources are made possible thanks to the generosity of local supporters who consistently help restock the shelves.
Founder, Lesha Rosenboro, shared the inspiring story behind the organization’s evolution. The center first began as “Hear Our Voice,” a program dedicated to helping women rebuild confidence and achieve success. As their impact grew, Lesha and her team recognized that entire families, not just women, could benefit from a support system. This vision led to the creation of the H.E.R.E. Center. Lesha spoke candidly about growing up in a home where trauma was normalized and big dreams were discouraged. Today, her mission is to be a light at the end of the tunnel for those seeking a better path forward. She grounds her work in the Maya Angelou quote: “Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.”
One of the Center’s most uplifting initiatives is its Wall of Encouragement, which is displayed proudly in the office. The H.E.R.E. team also brings this activity into local schools, inviting youth to write and decorate letters of encouragement for others. These heartfelt messages serve as reminders of hope, empathy, and the power of community support.
