The Charitable Trust is thrilled to announce the recipients of our 2nd annual Microgrant Program! This year, $33,575 in grant funding has been awarded to 9 small nonprofits in Charles County. This grant program was born out of a desire to support Charles County’s smaller and newer nonprofits who are doing great work in our community but may struggle to win funding against larger and more established organizations. The awarded nonprofits operate on a budget of less than $100,000 per year and/or are less than 3 years in operation. They serve citizens in Charles County with a variety of missions listed below. These are nonprofits the Charitable Trust recognizes can make a big impact even with a smaller grant. Each recipient organization was granted up to $5,000 towards the following programs/projects:
Beyond the Classroom Inc. provides underserved youth and their families no-cost learning and engagement opportunities. https://www.beyondtheclassroominc.org/
Charlene’s Circle of Support Inc. will expand their care package program into a Family Care Package Program that addresses the needs of both the caregivers and children in Charles County. https://www.charlenescircle.org/
Chesapeake Choral Arts Society provides choral music entertainment in the Charles County community through free concerts, including a holiday program in December and a spring concert in March. https://www.chesapeakechoral.com/
Jamaur Law Foundation provides underserved Charles County residents with free literacy training, essential food support, and tools for economic mobility to reduce poverty and improve stability. https://www.jamaurlawfoundation.org/
Life Journeys Writer Club created a program at UM Charles Regional Medical Center with the goal of nurturing and empowering individuals voices of medical professionals serving Charles County through monthly writing and mentoring workshops. http://www.lifejourneyswritersguild.org/
Project Veteran House provides necessities for unhoused Veterans and their families living in Charles County including tents, sleeping bags, hygiene items, and first aid kits. https://www.projectveteranhouse.org/
Seeds of Courage, Inc.’s Bravery Bags program empowers trauma survivors in Charles County to break free from financial abuse and achieve lasting economic stability. https://seedsofcourage.org/
Southern Sprinters Elite Youth Track Foundation, Inc. offers a series of free clinics to ensure all interested athletes, regardless of background, can access high-quality coaching and resources that can pave the way for collegiate athletic opportunities. https://www.southernsprinterselite.com/
Toiletry and Company, Inc.’s Feel Good Smell Good initiative provides essential hygiene products such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and razors to underserved young men. Through improving access to hygiene supplies, the initiative enhances self-esteem and encourages participation in school and the workplace. https://toiletryandco.org/
The Charitable Trust’s Nonprofit Microgram Program is funded by community donations and unused grant funds from previous grant rounds.
