A heartfelt congratulations is due to our nonprofit friends at Poiema Movement on their new venture! An official Ribbon Cutting was held on November 19th to celebrate the completion of the “El Roi” House, which will house women and children trauma survivors as they work their way through Poiema’s 12-18 month program. Beyond safe and stable housing, Poiema’s program will assist mothers and their children with wrap around services to include counseling, sobriety support, financial literacy, job searching, transportation to work and healthcare appointments, parenting classes, and more. Poiema’s mission is to support women who are ready to rebuild stable lives following addiction, domestic violence, homelessness, or other trauma. And for the first time, thanks to the addition of El Roi House, women with children will be able to enter the program.
El Roi House, located in Waldorf, is a beautiful 6,000 square foot new build containing 7 bedrooms, 2 full kitchens and living spaces, a prayer room, a large playroom, and an office for staff. Tiffany Barber, Poiema Movement’s Founder and Executive Director tells Trust Staff the home will serve approximately 5 families at a time, depending on family size. Poiema is incredibly grateful to many local nonprofits and businesses who have partnered with them to complete or enhance this project. Ivy & Pearls of Southern Maryland donated furniture, decor, and toys for the playroom, while Pure Play Everyday is designing a back yard play area for the children. Essential System Integrators (ESI) donated the home’s security system free of charge and a variety of other partners have contributed. The construction of El Roi House was funded in large part by a Transitional Housing Grant from the Charles County Charitable Trust.
