The Nonprofit Grant Award Program

By agreement with the County government, the Trust is responsible for the management of the annual Nonprofit Grant Award Program. Using funds approved by the County Commissioners, we review applications submitted by nonprofit organizations that serve the residents of the county and determine the awards. We also monitor the use of the grant funds over the course of the grant year.

Purpose:  Engage youth and adults on a continuum of environmental education and stewardship in Charles County.

Bay Community Support Services
Grant Award:  $16,000
Purpose:  Implementation of ”YOUniversity”, a technology-driven training program that includes clinical certifications, and innovative techniques in patient care and professional development courses.

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington – Angel’s Watch Shelter
Grant Award:  $50,000
Purpose:  Provide safe emergency shelter and wraparound supportive services for homeless, single women and families.

Charles County Arts Alliance
Grant Award:  $10,000
>Purpose: Provision of supplies and funds for arts programs for students in kindergarten through high school, as well as the enhancement of arts programs for senior citizens and non-profit organizations.

Purpose:  Provide modifications and adaptive equipment for more accessible restrooms for persons with significant disabilities.

Grant Award:  $10,000
Purpose: Engage at-risk youth ages 12-21 by matching them with volunteer mentors, providing them with tutoring and leadership development, as well as referrals to other programs and services.

The Arc of Southern Maryland
Grant Award: $45,000
Purpose: Complete necessary repairs to residential homes due to the aging and general wear and tear, and to comply with ADA federal regulations.

The Catherine Foundation of Maryland
Grant Award:  $20,000
Purpose:  Increase the number and types of childbirth education classes for marginalized women who cannot afford supportive childbirth classes and services.

The Jude House
Grant Award: $55,000
Purpose: Provide additional experiential and physical opportunities for uninsured and underinsured men and women with life-threatening substance abuse disorder by partnering with Outward Bound school.

The Promise Resource Center
Grant Award:  $30,000
Purpose: Provide intensive in-home parenting support for at-risk families in order to facilitate family reunification and prevent foster care placement for children living in the home.

Purpose: Summer camp for underprivileged children from the Nanjemoy area to help them develop skills and gain independence, and weekend picnics with structured activities for children and their families throughout the summer.

Maryland Veterans Memorial Museum
Grant Award: $10,000
Purpose: Develop an education program as part of Become a Patriot or Not: Maryland’s celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the Revolutionary War by incorporating video and an activity booklet to inform the public about General Washington’s and General Rochambeau’s role in the Revolutionary War and their impact on Maryland history.

Purpose: Support Charles County home-schooled youth by providing opportunities to learn about and explore visual art forms, art history, art culture, and art exhibits.
