Application Instructions

You may log on to the Grant Application Portal to submit your application. You will find “Apply Here” buttons on this Instructions page and on the main grant page at https://www.charlesnonprofits.org/maryland-recovery/. They are located at the top righthand corner of both pages and at the bottom of the pages. Click on one of these buttons and you will be linked to the log-on page for your application. Please make a note of your password as you will need it to re-enter the portal.

Filling in the Application:

Your form will automatically save your entries as you move through the application.

  • For narrative answers, use a Word document and cut-and-paste text into the application.
  • Do not use formatting like bullets, bold, or highlights as they will not translate to the application.   
  • Answer all questions and upload the required documents or the system will not allow you to submit your application.
  • When you successfully submit your application, you will receive an e-mail acknowledgement and a copy of your application. Contact the Trust office if you do not receive the email.

Documents that you will need:

1. IRS Letter of Determination

2. Most Recent 990 or 990-EZ, if you are required to file one by the IRS and/or most recent independent audit or review in compliance with state/and or federal regulations or by choice.

  • If you are not required to submit either of these documents, submit your FY2020 Profit and Loss Statement signed by an authorized person in your organization

3. FY20 Operating Budget vs Actuals

4. Grant Request Information:

Grant requests do not have to directly relate to the adverse economic impacts of COVID. It may include other circumstances that impact your organization’s ability to adequately provide programs and services.

For local chapters/offices of regional or national organizations, submit local budgets for Charles County operations only.

You may apply for grants in one or more of the three categories of available funding.

Category A: For Actual Net Revenue Loss during the period March 1, 2020 to May 31, 2021.

  • Documentation of net revenue loss must be provided, for example, budget vs. actuals for the period of loss compared to budget vs. actuals for the same period of loss in the previous year. Because of the pandemic, you may also need to provide FY2019 financials to provide evidence of loss.

Category B: For Projected Net Revenue loss between June 1, 2021 – December 31, 2021

  • FY20 and/or FY2019 Profit and Loss statement to support projected revenue loss OR other verifiable method to show evidence of projected net revenue loss.

Category C: For Direct Costs of Goods and Services between March 21, 2020 and December 31, 2021.

  • Submit Project/Program Budget.
  • You will be asked to download the budget template, fill it out and upload it to the application form.

Government Restrictions:
If equipment is purchased, it must be tagged and inventoried.
